What is the definition of a real hero? Can we consider people who kill others as heroes? The classical definition
of hero is a strong courageous man who fights evil to defend the lives of the innocent. A hero must be someone who has acted
courageously, perhaps in the face of great personal suffering, sacrifice, or risk. However, some people say that no one has
the right to kill others, so we must not honor those people who kill others as heroes. What might be your opinion?
Heroes are people who struggle and do more than what is asked of them. They need bravery, must show ingenuity
and work hard toward a goal. A hero is distinguished by exceptional courage, strength and nobility. He has to overcome many
challenges and take many risks. We can point out so many examples of this from history, especially from the Indian freedom
struggle. Even though Mahatma Gandhi believed in non-violence, there were so many Indian freedom struggle leaders, who preferred
violent ways to reach their goal.
Pazhassi Raja, the king of a small state, Kottayam, in late 17th century, is one excellent example
of those leaders who believed in violent ways like, armed revelations, to gain freedom from British rule. He was a strong
opponent of the East Indian Company, a company owned by the British government, and led many wars against them. His troops
inflicted massive damage on the English army and defeated them many times. Finally, when the English army
defeated him, he fled to Wayanad hills, a part of his country and started guerilla war, and defeated the English army and
murdered thousands of soldiers again.
Bhagat Singh, who is well known for his bravery, is another great name in the Indian freedom struggle. He
was so patriotic in his mind that at the age of fourteen he went to the park of Jalianwala Bagh, where four hundred Indians
were shot dead by the British, to collect the soil. In one of the protest marches against the British rule, he became an eyewitness
towards the cruelty of the police chief Scott, to a well known Indian freedom fighter Lala Lajput Rai. As revenge, with the
help of his friends, he planned to assassinate Scott, but by mistake they killed another junior officer named Sanders. Then
he fled to Lahore, which is now a Pakistani state. During this time he made his second attempt, by bombing the corridor of
Delhi central Assembly and murdered four British soldiers.
Both of these heroes, Pazhassi Raja and Bhagat Singh, made their own mark in Indian History through their
braveness. They might have taken the lives of others, or their acts might have affected the lives of other innocent people,
but nobody considered them as murderers, or ignored their part in the Indian freedom struggle. For those who know Indian history,
these leaders were, are and will be heroes.
In short, a hero is a person who makes the right decision at the right time. He must be ready to take risk to change anyone's
life in a positive way. It does not matter what way he chooses to reach the goal. He could choose either peaceful or violent
methods to achieve his goal. In other words, value of the goal makes a hero not the ways he chosen.
